DVD ENTERTAINMENT GROUP TO PROVIDE EDUCATIONAL TOOL FOR RETAILERS Consumer Questions Answered
By Retailer Poster LOS ANGELES - July 8, 2000 - The DVD Entertainment Group, the industry association representing the major studios, record labels and consumer electronics companies announced that it has developed a poster for display at retail which will educate consumers on key terms associated with DVD-Video. The announcement was made today at VSDA Convention, the industry trade show for home video retailers. The four-color poster defines the benefits and options associated with DVD-Video. The poster helps clarify the difference between widescreen and fullscreen, highlights the various sound configurations as well as other key terms consumers may find confusing. Additional poster highlights include explanations of the different features available on DVD movies and music videos like filmographies, behind-the-scenes footage, interactive menus and scene selection. "As DVD continues to move into the mass market, we want to ensure that consumers understand all that DVD has to offer," said Emiel N. Petrone, chairman, DVD Entertainment Group and executive vice president, Philips Entertainment Group Worldwide. "We believe the poster will be a helpful tool in helping consumers appreciate all the format has to offer." The poster will be distributed to all VSDA members, as well as other retailers and mass merchants through the DVD Entertainment Group's studio members. Posters will be ready for distribution September 1 in preparation for the all-important fourth quarter. Retailers interested in receiving a poster should contact the DVD Entertainment Group at 310.967.2940.
